ESP的语言与技能的共核理念是指,在不同的学科和职业行为中,存在着通用的语言特征和语言技能。ESP包含三种成分:一般用途英语、一般专门用途英语和特定专门用途英语。一般专门用途英语是ESP各个功能变体之间的共核成分,即在文体、修辞、体裁和交际技能等方面的通用成分。我国大学ESP教学的症结在于,在基础英语教学之后,跳过了一般专门用途英语阶段而直接进入特定专门用途英语教学,未能使学生掌握专业信息交流所必需的共核性语用规则和交际技巧,难以有效地提高学生的专业英语应用能力。因此,大学ESP应该定位在一般专门用途英语,即通用学术英语的教学上,使学生首先掌握作为各门专业英语基础的共核性语用规则和交际技能,以便能够较快地适应专业课的英语教学。
The common-core concept of ESP’s language and skills means that there are common linguistic features and language skills in different disciplines and occupational behaviors. ESP consists of three components: general purpose English, general purpose English, and specific English for specific purposes. General English for Specific Purposes is a common-core component between ESP’s various functional variations, namely, stylistic, rhetorical, genre and communicative skills. The crux of ESP teaching in Chinese universities is that after the basic English teaching, it skips the general purpose English phase and goes directly to the teaching of specific English for specific purposes, failing to enable the students to master the core pragmatic rules and communication necessary for professional information exchange Skills, it is difficult to effectively improve students’ professional English ability. Therefore, ESP should be positioned as a general-purpose English for general purpose academic English teaching so that students first master the common-core pragmatic rules and communicative skills as the basis of various professional English so as to be able to quickly adapt to the professional English teaching.
