史东山是左翼电影主将之一,为中国“二战”电影的创作与发展做出了重要贡献。史东山的抗战影片创造了华语电影史上的诸多第一,并且产生了很大的影响。史东山电影的独特之处在于,注意揭示中国内部深层的社会问题,批判意识与斗争精神非常强烈。在艺术路线方面,史东山抗战电影的最大特点是追求通俗性和大众性。当然,由于历史的局限,他对于纯艺术电影的批判也失之简单和偏颇,有时甚至也相当粗暴。由此可以发现,即使是最优秀的电影人,也无法摆脱左翼共同体的艺术工具论与功利主义诉求的时代局限。 Shi Dongshan is one of the major filmmakers on the left, making an important contribution to the creation and development of the “World War II” movie in China.
