Because of its close connection with Germanic tradition, this piece, along with other medieval literature in the Germanic cultural circle, has significant Germanic cultural identities. Therefore, most of the names in “Beowufu” are the same as the traditional names of the ancient Germanic society, constantly conveying rich historical and cultural information in the stories. A large body of literature in this area shows that despite much controversy over the semantics covered by important names such as Beowulf and Glendale, scholars’ enthusiasm for inquiry has not diminished by these almost irreconcilable disputes. This essay takes the etymology of Old English as a clue and tries to find out the mysterious meanings hidden in the name of Granger again, which is of great significance to the deep understanding of epic or re-translated epic.
