Using the nomination of friends and the Beck Depression Questionnaire, 3034 college students in 73 classes were used as subjects to examine the effect of different levels of depression of friends with different connection steps on the depression of individuals. The results showed that: (1) there was a significant negative effect of the number of inter-selected friends on depression; (2) after controlling for the influence of the number of inter-selected friends, there was no depression in the inter-selected friends and no significant depression to the individuals themselves (3) the number of friends with depression and the number of friends with depression had a significant positive predictive value on individual’s depression; (4) The number of friends with same-sex depression had significant effect on individual’s depression Positive predictive value, while the number of heterosexual depression friends on the individual’s depression does not have a significant predictive effect. Based on the above results, the following conclusions can be drawn: Depression friends in the class network of friends within only two degrees of influence (including two degrees), and this effect is not subject to the direction of friends. As the number of depressed friends increases, there is a marked increase in the risk of depression in individuals, but the effect of depression on individual depression may be influenced more by gay friends.
